Abstract

This plea for a »Global House of Sociology« is a radical farewell to the thinking in (nation)-state societies. In the 21.st century it is World Society, which will significantly shape the scientific discourse in Sociology. The scientific and cognitive interest of the book is the essential reflexion of the sociological discipline, who needs to orientate herself due to contemporary developments on a new global social frame of reference. The Author deals with hereinafter with the definition and use of terms - e.g. Society as the central term of Sociology – as well as the variety of the content of terms, like International Society, Transnational Society, Global Society as well as specifically the term World Society. A comparative reconstruction of the reconstruction of different sociological approaches to World Society is looked into. Conceptualizations of World Society are represented as central components of the changing perspectives of the sociological discipline pointing towards a Global Shift. It is about understanding World Society as a significant context as well as an essential challenge of Sociology in the 21.st century.
