Abstract
The constitution of a country is this part of its legal order, which is giving the best information about both the legal and the social structure of this country. In Austria this constitution is the ?B-VG 1920?, which was enacted on the 1st October 1920 and which is in essence still part of the Austrian legal system. In this paper the history of development of the Austrian constitution, from the first constitution of the year 1848 finally to the first two years of the ?First Republic?, is analysed. The priority of the paper is set up how the social democratic politician and chancellor from 1918 to 1920, Dr. Karl Renner, was able to take influence on the negotiations about the coming constitution and partly even on the constitution itself.
