Abstract
The estimation of population total from sample data is an important task in empirical research. The basic features of the estimation process can be vividly illustrated by the generation of an artificial population called pseudo-population. It substitutes the original population in the estimation process with regard to the variable involved. Experience in teaching the sampling theory shows that this
teaching concept has the potential of substantially improving the students’comprehension of the basic concepts of the sampling theory.
