Abstract

The Vague Query System (VQS)allows to efficiently carry out rankings for user defined queries according to the semantic meta-information of attributes. It can easily be added to existing relational database systems. In this article we demonstrate the applicability of the system on Tourism Information Systems(TI-systems). We will show that for cases where the structure of the existing database is not directly suited for the use with VQS, we can achieve compatibility by using views. Furthermore we will show a concept for integrating VQS into the query language TIS-QL, in order to achieve an even tighter integration into TI-systems.
