Abstract
Ultra wideband (UWB) radar is used for example in ground penetrating radar systems. Therefore it is necessary to cover a broad frequency range. This can be done by using steep edged subnanosecond-pulses. The depth of penetration depends on material characteristics and on the pulse power. The in [1, 2] used step recovery diode pulse generator can deliver pulses with an amplitude of about 2.5 V at 50 W. For higher amplitudes amplifiers are necessary. This application note shows a simple circuit with the Excelics EFC120B-100F Low Distortion GaAs Power FET.
