Abstract
In polymer processing, measuring velocity profiles of hot polymer melt is of interest. Ultrasound Pulsed-Wave-Velocimetry is able to measure these profiles in optically opaque media with sufficient spatial resolution. This contribution describes a new ultrasonic measurement tool, which is fully integrated in a heated capillary die. It acoustically couples an ultrasound transducer to the liquid under test and mechanically separates it from its harsh environment (high temperature, high pressure). Measurement results, obtained in-line throughout extruding polypropylene, are presented.
