Abstract

In this paper we present an ultra wideband (UWB) test set-up with a novel low-cost microstrip pulse forming network for Gaussian monocycle generation. The test set-up consists of a commercially available pulse generator, a novel low-cost pulse forming network, a prototyped wideband balun, different wideband antennas and a sampling oscilloscope. The combination of pulse generator and pulse forming network generates a monocycle pulse with an amplitude of 1.8 Vpp and a time duration below 300 ps. This unbalanced pulse is transformed to a balanced one, by a wideband CPW-to-CPS balun, to feed different types of balanced wideband antennas. The radiated pulse is received by an equivalent antenna-balun combination. The signal processing for the determination of different target position was carried out by correlation algorithms.
