Abstract
Increasing requirements regarding technology and energy- and cost-efficiency decisively influence todays market for small electromagnetic drives. The severe competition, especially between European and Asian manufacturers, is pushing the grades of innovation, design optimization and mechatronization in many fields of application. This paper gives an overview of some observable basic trends, aspects of design optimization and technical highlights concerning mechatronic integration using the example of a bearingless segment motor.
