Abstract
This work is about tolerance analysis and robust optimization for electric machine design. A general introduction is presented, where specific definitions for characterizing uncertainties are introduced and explained. This is followed by possible definitions for performance measures to quantify the impact of uncertainties. The state-of-the-art regarding electric machine design scenarios considering tolerance effects is illustrated. Few examples are provided in more detail. Both today’s challenges and also the benefits of tolerance analysis and robust optimization, as well as proposals for future work are sketched out.
