Abstract
With the tremendous growth of the Web, accessing information on the Internet has become less a question of
determining whether the information is out there, but rather, in what form, and how to find it [1]. The XML-KM
approach gives a new presentation approach based on tourist maps, which offer powerful geographic search
facilities and the possibility to apply them for mobile terminals. In the course of the IST project XML-KM, the
official Austrian tourism information and booking system TIScover is extended in order to integrate tourism data
with geographic data to build dynamic tourist maps and enable geographic search. The integration is based on
SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics) the upcoming standard to describe two dimensional vector graphics in XML.
