Successive Interference Cancellation for MIMO UW-OFDM

Abstract

Unique word - orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (UW-OFDM) is a new signaling concept which has better spectral properties and also a superior bit error ratio (BER) performance over conventional cyclic prefix (CP) based OFDM. In UW-OFDM, the CPs are replaced by deterministic sequences, the so-called unique words (UWs). So far, the performance of UW-OFDM has been well investigated for single-input singleoutput (SISO) systems. Recently, we expanded our investigation of UW-OFDM to MIMO systems and proposed two linear detection approaches. In this work, we extend our work and propose successive interference cancellation (SIC) based nonlinear detection schemes for MIMO UW-OFDM systems. We also compare the results to CP-OFDM with linear and SIC based detection schemes. The results show that UW-OFDM with SIC not only outperforms UW-OFDM with linear detection schemes but also CP-OFDM significantly.
