Abstract

Numerous hydraulic sources create significant flow- and pressure pulsations. Common devices to attenuate these unpleasant effects include accumulators, different forms of hydraulic resonators, hydraulic absorbers in various arrangements and novel multiple-volume resonators . None of these devices but the multiple-volume resonators are capable of compensating a base harmonic as well as higher order multiples of it. In this paper we will present a compensator based on a multi-degree of freedom mass-spring system, which may be tuned in such a way to compensate the base frequency of the pulsating flow Omega and 1...n multiples of it Omega_1 ... Omega_N by utilising a novel tuning technique for chain structure oscillators.
