Abstract

A 4-GHz fully integrated LC voltage-controlled oscillator using on-chip spiral inductors and MOSCAP varactors in a 0.25-µm CMOS process is presented in this paper. The oscil-lator has a tuning range of 16.7 % and draws only 4.5 mA from a 2.5 V supply. An estimate of –141 dBc/Hz at an offset of 20 MHz from the carrier for the phase noise performance is derived from simulations in Hspice using a time-variant phase noise model.
