Abstract
The rapidly increasing global consumption of natural resources while simultaneously reaching planetary limits calls for a sustainable structural change in the area of production and consumption. SDG 12 aims at developing sustainable consumption and production patterns and ensuring their competitiveness, feasibility and practicability. This requires the use of a wide range of instruments, which include companies in the manufacturing industry, service and trading companies in the entire value chain, as well as the end consumer. Due to the regulatory developments, the concept of the circular economy, which includes all relevant actors, offers a reference framework for SDG 12.
