Abstract
The advantage of stratification, the gain in precision compared to simple random sampling, is only available if the true sizes of the stratas in the population are known. In this paper the effect of using estimated strata-sizes instead of the true ones is discussed. For the purpose of estimating the strata-sizes a simple resp. a stratified random-sample are proposed.
