Abstract
This contribution deals with the application of passivity-based control design methods to composite piezoelectric structures. It turns out that the constructive design (layer structure, shaping of the surface electrodes, polarization) may be considered as an additional degree of freedom for the controller design. Thus, it will be shown that an appropriate voltage supply of the actuator layers in combination with suitable sensor layers provides a collocated actuator-sensor configuration. This serves as a basis for a simple passivity-based control with output feedback. It can be proven that for the bending of a piezoelectric composite cantilever beam this controller design together with a special layer structure leads to an exponentially stable closed loop system.
