Plane vibrations of an intelligent cantilever beam with distributed piezoelectric actuators are considered. The space-wise distribution of the actuators is chosen in order to give vibrations identical to those due to external forces. Therefore it is possible to have no deflection in the steady state case. The design of the control system for the structural vibrations is based on frequency domain considerations. The transcendental transfer function of the plant is approximated by a rational one, for which an optimal control is derived by the h2 approach. BIBO-stability of the original system is discussed using Nyquist plots.
