Abstract

This work introduces a design and analysis for a new photonic crystal ring resonator (PCRR) for gas sensing in the mid infrared (MIR) region. By combining a photonic crystal slow light waveguide and a photonic crystal resonator, we demonstrate a new method for optical absorption sensing. For this purpose, we propose a PCRR with higher interaction between guided mode and analyte. This can be done in a PCRR consisting of dielectric silicon rods surrounded by air. We present the design and modeling of a suitable PhC structure utilizing silicon thus enabling fabrication in MEMS technology.
