Abstract
In the course of establishing an evidence-based governance regime of their school systems a number of European countries have introduced a new type of school inspections. In Austria, this has taken place only in a few provinces on an experimental basis.
The paper at hand explains the logic of “new school inspections”. Based on data from a comparative European project we discuss how the model of “Styrian team inspection” (which may be taken as an example for “new school inspections”) is perceived and evaluated by principals of Styrian primary and secondary schools. Finally, potential consequences for the implementation of the new Austrian system of quality management (§ 18 BSAG) are discussed.
