Abstract
The goal of this thesis was to model so called Tamm-Plasmon-Polariton (TP) structures in context with optical mid-infrared absorption sensing of gases. The structures were designed with the particular application as thermal emitters featuring tailored optical spectra in mind. These type of metamaterials enable a selective resonant enhancement of the electric field at the target resonant wavelength resulting in effective narrowband emission and absorption. These are essential properties for maximizing the sensitivity of minituarized on-chip integrated absorption sensor systems for corresponding gases featuring absorption lines in the so-called mid-infrared fingerprint region.
