Abstract

The contribution is devoted to the modeling, simulation and control of a laboratory scaled plant for rolling process investigations which are used in the professional steel industry research. We will provide a detailed mathematical description of the laboratory scaled plant’s horizontal dynamics consisting of hydraulic actuators and a steel strip. Beside position and force control the control task primarily focuses on the attenuation of steel strip vibrations which is achieved exploiting the port-Hamiltonian structure of the system and the method of interconnection and damping assignment - passivity based control (IDA- PBC).
