Abstract
This thesis deals with the collaboration between business companies and nongovernmental organisations as a way into a sustainable future. The basic communication strategies of nongovernmental organisation working in environmental sector are worked out theoretically as well as their practical implementation by using case studies and expert interviews.
The evolution and the different phases of the communication processes are illustrated concerning the cooperation- and confrontation-strategy. Relating to that, the requirements of the decision-makers involved, the process itself as well as the needed capacities are described. Chances and risks of cooperations and confrontations from a company's as well as from an environmental organisation's perspective are derived, and furthermore success factors concerning content and relationship aspects are presented. Moreover, future challenges for nongovernmental organisations are described.
By a successful implementation of the communication strategies, changing processes in companies are initiated and furthered. In order to pursue a sustainable development together with commercial organisations, it is essential to engage with them in an open dialogue.
