Abstract
Magnetic geared motors offer many advantages over mechanical gearboxes, such as reduced maintenance and intrinsic overload protection. However, in terms of durability, the limited lifetime of mechanical bearings holding the high-speed rotor is a main concern. To solve this problem, a magnetic geared motor with an additional three-phase winding to provide a suspension force to the high-speed rotor has been proposed. In this paper, the suspension force and magnetic attraction force of a magnetically geared motor with a magnetically levitated high-speed rotor are investigated through finite element analysis.
