Abstract

This paper investigates the startup capabilities of a line start permanent magnet synchronous machine under varying connection conditions. A finite-element aided analytical method is employed to simulate the machine’s dynamic startup behavior, enabling a fast and comprehensive evaluation of its performance characteristics. Particular focus is placed on identifying deviations in the machine parameters caused by uneven airgap widths due to the stator geometry and saturation effects in the rotor core. This extended machine model is then used to perform a parameter study investigation of the start-up capabilities of the machine under varying connection conditions.
