Abstract

Software agents are receiving a lot of interest in the computer science research community. However, while much discussion has been raised about what an agent is, there is no clear definition which software systems are to be called agents and which are not. This article tries to clarify what computer scientists mean when they talk about agents and gives an overview of important aspects and frequent notions in agent research.
