Abstract
The authors report on a methodology for diagnosing the state of information systems; they developed this methodology over a period of five years on the basis of nine projects conducted using prototypes in practice. The core of this methodology is a metrics concept and an activity model that were developed, tested and further developed on the basis of defined goals for diagnosing the state of information systems. This paper demonstrates the application of the methodology using selected results from one of the nine projects and presents findings from observations of diagnosis projects.
