Infective Endocarditis After Aortic Valve Replacement with Aorto-Ventricular Discontinuity: A Major Surgical Challenge with Acceptable Midterm Results

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

Surgical management of PVE patients is often challenging, the infection may damage the surrounding tissue and aggressive debridement is mandatory, often leading to severe defects of the outflow tract requiring complex reconstructive procedures. The type of prosthesis, surgical technique used, and type of infection can also affect the success of the operation. Additionally, there is an increased risk of recurrent infections with repeated surgical interventions, which can make the decision to operate challenging in some cases.
