Hierarchical Organization and Description of Music Collections at the Artist Level

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingConference proceedingspeer-review

Abstract

As digital music collections grow the necessity to organize them (preferably automatically) increases. In this paper we present an approach to hierarchically structure artists automatically according to their similarity and to describe these clusters with words. The approach is based on a web search engine (Google), standard text retrieval tech- niques, term selection (using domain knowledge), and hierarchical clus- tering with fuzzy boundaries. We present the results and discuss short- comings of different variations.
