Abstract
Disciples of quantitative evaluation reside themselves little reflected on methods and findings from scientometrics.1) Databases as the most important basis of quantitative evaluation. 2) Output and Impact indicators as artefacts. 2.1) Output ("Productivity") as an indicator for institutional power (honorary authorships, ghost authors). 2.2) Resonance (Impact) as an indicator of social capital. 3) The Impact Factor of the ISI (Institute for Scientific Information, Philadelphia) in the limelight of criticism. 4) Reformatory efforts (Universal Citation Base).
