    Abstract

The topic of the diploma exam are unit trusts investing in ?sustainable? companies. In the first chapter I give reasons why an orientation to sustainable development is so important and how international problems are fight. The second chapter defines the term ?sustainability? and gives examples how it is implemented in companies. Chapter three shows the development of ethical, ecological and sustainable investment. Chapter four is the main chapter of the work. It shows how companies are selected especially for the Dow-Jones-Sustainability-Indices but also for other ?sustainability-indices? (Natur-Aktien-Index, Arese Sustainable Performance Indices, Dow Jones STOXX Sustainability Indices, FTSE4good). Also an overview about tax treatment of unit trusts is given. Chapter five shows the supply of sustainability-funds in Austria. Therefore all Austrian investment trusts have been consulted. Charts show that the development of nearly all sustainability-indices beats their benchmark, indices that don?t select their shares from ?sustainable? companies. But not all unit trusts derived from sustainability-indices are suitable for ethical-ecological orientated investors. It is recommended to examine exactly the supply before buying.
