Abstract

During the COVID 19 pandemic, attendance at kindergarten was not possible at times, or not possible for all children. Some of the kindergartens continued the educational mission and the cooperation with parents for those children and their families who could not attend kindergarten in distance mode. Based on an Austrian interview study with kindergarten directors, with reference to the concept of pedagogical quality in kindergartens, a typology was developed, which characterises those facilities that have maintained or not maintained parent cooperation, educational work and relationship in the distance mode. The social composition of the institution, pedagogical orientations and the cooperation with parents before the pandemic play a central role in explaining the differences.
