Abstract
This paper focuses on family care and education of preschool-age children during the
COVID-19 pandemic. A typology was developed based on previous research conducted in
German-speaking countries. Utilizing the dimensions of framework conditions and educational resources, distinctions were drawn between an opportunity-rich type and a vulnerable
type, as well as between a type facing challenges in balancing work and caregiving responsibilities and a type prioritizing child care. Data from semi-structured interviews conducted
with families with a migration background between July 2020 and August 2021 were applied
to this typology, to gain insights into the perceptions of families that were underrepresented
in previous studies.
