Abstract
Following the duality principle, any hydraulic network can be transformed into a onedimensional
mechanical system which exhibits the same dynamic properties. Pressure in the
hydraulic system becomes velocity in the mechanical system; flow rate in the hydraulic
system corresponds to force in the mechanical system. If the frequency response functions
between flow rate and pressure are measured, experimental modal analysis can be used to
determine the natural frequencies and mode shapes of the hydraulic network.
