Abstract
This paper deals especially with the two big topics sustainable development and globalization. The terms sustainability or sustainable development and the term globalization are very important catchwords for these days. Sustainable development is a development, which meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.
Globalization is the increasing development of global markets for goods, capital and services as well as the increasing integration of national economies. The process of globalization can have positive as well as negative effects on sustainable development.
This document gives at first a summary of the two main topics, sustainable development and globalization, in order to be in a position to analyse the positive and negative effects of globalization on sustainable development. Many nations in Europe created a national development strategy in the last years to cope with the new challenges of the globalization. In the end of this paper some of the European sustainable development strategies will be analyzed.
