Abstract
The diploma thesis at hand focusses on the development and implementation of sustainable innovations in the context of the BioRegion Mühlviertel. In order to do that the BioRegion Mühlviertel is analysed in terms of various criteria concerning structurally weak rural regions. Furthermore, several problems which rural areas have to face will be addressed. Within the scope of sustainable regional development, problems, such as the migration of companies and manpower, shall be counteracted with the aim of enhancing the added value of a region and in order to create on-site employment opportunities for the regional population.
The development of a regional brand, like the BioRegion Mühlviertel, under which regional organic specialities are marketed represents one of the many facets of regional development. In order to be able to outline possibilities of the development and implementation of sustainable innovations in the context of the BioRegion Mühlviertel the empirical part of this thesis highlights a variety of methods, which are based on the analysis of best-practice examples and expert interviews. Moreover, an analysis of the key success factors of the examples will be included as well as the development of concrete proposals for actions for the BioRegion Mühlviertel, with which the success of the marketing of specialities of the region can be increased.
