Abstract
Increasing globalization in the past decades led to changes in the agricultural structure as well as in the industrial development, followed by losses in the value added chain of domestic agricultural businesses and considerable weakened economic structures in rural regions. Theoretical and practical findings show how sustainable innovations are developed, realized and enhanced in different ways in an organizational structure. Innovation is prevalent in the field of regional product development, organic food production as well as in alternative concepts of sustainable energy and tourism. The aim of this thesis is to show problems and opportunities of such regions to design sustainable economic and social trends based on existing endogenous economical, social and ecological capabilities
