Abstract
The contribution investigates up to which extent the EU Energy-Climate-Strategy 2020 is corresponding to the criteria of sustainable energy use from a scientific point of view. In particular the investigation focuses on the environmental aspects of an extended implementation of several renewable energy sources. Those are inspected from the points of necessary resource input, air pollution and net climate release. Furthermore a special view is laid on the controversial discussion of biofuels and on pending questions concerning the integration of a growing share of wind and solar energy in the energy supply system.
