Abstract

The offer of the AIDSHILFE Upper Austria of a free of charge and anonymous HIV-tests have been utilized by young people between 15 and 25 years. The outweigh part of HIV-positive tested people is over 25 years. To investigate, if the group of the 15-25 differs from the 25-35 aged group concerning knowledge, attitudes and behaviour, in April 2001 a representative study with 512 adolescents have been conducted. Results: despite a widespread knowledge about the hazards through HIV/AIDS only few use condoms in sexual contacts. AIDS is a subject in Upper Austria. People worry about, but do n´t like to speak about. Knowledge is substantial. Two thirds get information from mass media, education in schools gets more importance. Despite knowledge utilization of condom is to infrequent. Protective behaviour is determined by: attitudes towards condom, by single aspects of the topic, sexual behaviour, close social contacts and age.
