Abstract

Cooperative business processes are in the centerpiece of the work organisation of enterprises and public institutions. For some years already workflow management systems (WFMS) for the support of business processes have been offered. While there is an ever increasing number of products available on the market, the question of potential benefits of this technology cannot be answered satisfactorily by applying common evaluation methods. Laboratory studies are a suitable method for the prognosis of consequences of the application of technology. In this context a laboratory study is the scientific study of WFMS in an artificially created reality, namely the laboratory. The paper describes the design and findings of two workflow laboratory studies.
