Abstract
In order to curb climate change, Austria is obliged under Union law to achieve energy
and climate goals both by 2020 and 2030. In particular, the greenhouse gas targets
are neither guaranteed for 2020, nor will they be achieved with existing measures by
2030. In order to close the gap between the real trend and the target paths to be
achieved, additional climate protection measures are required in the energy-relevant
sectors of energy and industry, transport and buildings. There are various options for
this, but there are also obstacles at the level of the energy supply and that of the
energy consumers.
