Abstract

This thesis aims to increase the sustainability awareness of Scrum teams and to help product owners in their decision making by proposing a software tool. The tool, which is implemented as a plugin for Atlassian Jira, can be used to assess the impact on sustainability dimensions of individual user stories in an agile software development process. First, a literature review was conducted to analyse existing software tools and reference models for measuring and assessing sustainability of software systems. Based on these findings, a prototype app was built for Atlassian Jira to assess sustainability impacts of user stories and to monitor the impacts of the product and its increments. For an initial evaluation, a focus group was formed with practitioners to gather feedback. The feedback was positive, despite some concerns about the practical implementation. It can help development teams to find unconsidered or undiscovered sustainability implications, thus increasing sustainability awareness.
