Abstract
In this contribution we report the design of loss optimized covers for microwave links. Microwave antennas are often mounted behind shelters either for esthetical reasons or to protect them from environmental influences. With a stacked multilayer arrangement, comparable to optical coatings, a loss optimized design, depending on wavelength and angle of incidence, can be obtained. Measurements with different glass-reinforced plastic (GPR) covers and sandwich arrangements confirmed the simulation results. In the frequency range of 40 GHz a minimum loss of 0.5 dB is feasible.
