Abstract
A new bearingless motor concept is presented in this paper. The proposed Axial Force/Torque motor is able to generate axial bearing forces and drive torques concurrently with one common winding system. The end-windings of a concentrated air-core coil winding can produce forces in the axial direction, if the rotor magnet system features a special magnetization pattern, that prevents the cancellation of the end-winding forces. Simple analytic models, that can clearify the influence of the motor main dimensions on its force and torque generation capability are presented.
