Der ökologische PC - Vision oder Wirklichkeit?

This paper analyzes the question if products of information technology, mend are: desktop computers, servers and server farms, may use the definition „ecological“ in a wider sense. Because of the popularity of the term “Green IT”, with which producers use to advertize their products fort he last two years, it was investigated what „Green IT“ may really mean. The closer inspection was done along the product life cycle and included, the production, especially the use auf the devices and the possibility for a more ecological use through alternatives in use and behavior of he users. The recycling and the predominating problems of recycling these products, as well as transportation and production in Asia are introduced. Besides there is a closer look and explication of alternatives to the common desktop computer like using thin client networks, server-virtualization, application-virtualization and desktop-virtualization. According to a complete business concept the founding of a company is simulated, that transfers the methods and possibilities, which are presented in the preceded chapters and brings the vision of an ecological PC to reality.
