Abstract
Innovation enables an important competitive factor for companies of any size. Depending on the company size the way of producing innovations differ most strongly. The present work examines the cross industry innovation methode and considers the needs and requirements of SMEs. The first part of the thesis deals with the topic in general and covers definitions, reasons, opportunities and challenges, methods and sources, best practice examples and selected empirical research. The second part on the one hand describes the specific characteristics of SMEs and one the other hand connects the general approach of the method with the needs of SMEs. As in the first part of the thesis this chapter also closes with best practice examples and empirical researches. In the final summary the most important findings of the thesis are combined to a in an integral cross-industry innovation concept for SMEs.
