Abstract

In 2016, a new university hospital merged from three former independent Austrian hospitals started its operation. For IS planning and project management purposes a critical success factor analysis was conducted. It was the expressed goal to not only list relevant factors, but also evaluate their potential impact on HIS success, which was revealed by a survey among stakeholders rating importance and urgency. Then, concrete measures were commonly developed including various stakeholders from different professional fields. The analysis revealed crucial factors within the domains (i) process, (ii) system, and (iii) human. In particular, the results showed that financial and human resources as well as a uniform administrative and clinical IT infrastructure throughout the whole new university hospital were among the most crucial factors.
