Abstract

Four examples for Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) in metallurgy: hot metal desulfurization (VAICON®-Desulf process), separation of nonmetallic inclusions in a tundish, block casting with electrical heating and the meniscus in the continuous casting mould. The modelling of multiphase flows (steel, slag, bubbles, particles), chemical reactions, phase change (solidification, melting), electromagnetic heating and stirring, thermal effects (heat transfer, buoyancy)
