Capacitive Sensor for Flame Detection in Pipes

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingConference proceedingspeer-review

Abstract

In the recent years, ensuring the safety and reliability of industrial processes has become an increasingly critical challenge. The flame detection in pipes remains a crucial area of concern. We propose an innovative approach utilizing a capacitive sensor for flame detection in pipes. The sensor harnesses the electrical properties of flames offering a promising alternative to traditional detection methods. The design focuses on maximizing the sensitivity considering parasitic capacitances of the assembly. Following the trend in the industry towards digitization and miniaturization, an integrated capacitance to digital converter is used, combining a superb accuracy and a high sample rate. The capacitive sensor demonstrates high effectiveness in detecting flames at a test facility. Index Terms—Capacitive sensor, permittivity, flame sensing
