Abstract
The article analyses the commercial practices of merchants from the State of Milan in
Spanish colonial trade during a period of a dual transformation: the change of sovereignty in the Milanese Duchy from the Spanish Monarchy to the Habsburgs, and the reforms of Spanish colonial trade. Based on various sources, the text shows that there was an intense immigration of Lombardian merchants between 1690 and 1730 and that the small and little-known Lombardian community played an important role in colonial trade by resorting to naturalisation, credit and direct personal networks with the Indies.
