Abstract

We investigate the possibility of online-monitoring of a gas phase polypropylene polymerization by application of infrared absorption measurement. It is demonstrated that, even though the absorption coefficients depend on pressure and gas composition when measuring at typical polymerization conditions, the composition of a gas mixture can be accurately determined by application of modern evaluation algorithms. Furthermore, a potential simplification of the measurement system (by building dedicated systems, which measure at specific wavelengths only) is identified.
